FAQ's

  • How long can I rent an item for?
There are two time options available - Short Term (4 days) or Longer Term (10 days). The time period includes the day of return - so please bare this in mind. For example, you may collect the item the day before your event (Day 0), the event is the next day (Day 1), you may need a little post event rest day (Day 2/3) and then the item must be returned to store before it closes the next day (Day 4). Each time length has their own price per product.
  • Can I cut the tags off before wearing the rental?
Absolutely yes! We always aim to have these removed before collection, but if for any reason we have forgotten, then please do remove before wearing. No need to hang on to them, everything gets cleaned and re-tagged on return.
  • Can I decide to keep the item?
We understand you may end up loving the item and want to keep it. As long as it is not booked out for a future rental, then that's fine! We just ask that you contact us before or on the return date, to let us know and we will charge the remaining current sales cost (which can be paid either in-store or via an online payment link).
  • Want further detail on our rental policy?
You can find our full rental T&C's online here - https://www.diffuseretail.co.uk/rental-policy It is important you read and understand these before booking a rental, as you will be legally bound by these once the rental order is confirmed. Don't worry though - it's nothing scary! It should all be fairly straightforward and means that you get to enjoy your event in your fabulous rental, with piece of mind.
  • Do I need to clean the item before returning?
Please refrain from cleaning any rented garments yourself. This will be looked after by us to ensure it is completed to the highest quality for all products and to avoid any risk of accidental damage whilst in your possession.
  • How far in advance can I order a rental?
For most rental orders, we will take bookings up to one month in advance to the event. For any prom or bridal bookings, these can be made up to 6 months in advance to the event. For all occasions, the full price of the rental is required upon reservation to hold the date. Please check the T&C's for information about cancellation fees.
  • What happens if I damage the item?
All rental items must be returned in person to the store, so it can be checked by a member of staff. If you are aware of any faults upon return, please mention these and the level of damage will be assessed upon return. - If it is minor repairable damage or stains (e.g. ripped seams, zip breaks and removable stains that require some extra attention), we will cover this - don't worry. - If the damage is more significant and beyond repair, we will need to charge 50% of the original full retail price.
  • Why has my item not been approved to lend?
Due to the limited space available for the 'Rent My Wardrobe' range in-store, we will not able to guarantee every item enquiry a spot on the rails. We assess every item based on what we think would work best for our customer base and the occasions they are looking to rent for at the time. This is to give your item the best chance of a successful rental journey. It may be that it is just not quite the right season for your item, in which case we will let you know and will aim to reach out to you at a better time of year.
  • Where can people book my item for rental?
We offer two lender service packages, depending on the level of comfort the lender has in regards to national vs local rentals. The first and more basic being the 'local in-store only' package. Your item will feature in our physical 'Rent My Wardrobe' range in-store, available for local customers to try on and book for local collection and drop off in-store. The other being the 'national omni-channel' package. Your item will feature in our physical 'Rent My Wardrobe' range in-store, as well as featuring both on the Diffuse Retail website and profile on the peer to peer lender app, ByRotation. This will open your rental customer base to a nationwide audience, as well as our local store customer base. Due to the different levels of time and servicing each package requires, the split in rental booking commission for the lender vs Diffuse Retail differs for each package. Regardless of the package chosen, we will aim to promote the 'Rent My Wardrobe' range as a whole (along with spotlights on various items) consistently via our social media platforms, in order to raise awareness of the items available and increase chances of rental bookings.
  • What type of items can I lend?
We are currently looking for non-casual, high quality clothing only (to the value of above at least £75). The items must be in excellent condition and will not be accepted if they have any existing issues or faults. They must be of a standard dress size, with no specific tailoring to your height and fit. They should be suitable to be worn as an occasion wear item; this can be for occasions from anything such as weddings, a day at the races, formal black tie events and prom etc. We do not recommend lending anything that is a one-off item or has any particular sentimental value as whilst damage is generally minimal, we can not guarantee this will not occur. Please note that items with silk, satin, and velvet materials can be slightly more susceptible to natural wear and tear, which can be difficult to repair invisibly. And items with loose parts (e.g., belts or sashes) need careful consideration as these can get lost during rentals.
  • Want further detail on our lending policy?
You can find our full lender T&C's online here - https://www.diffuseretail.co.uk/lender-policy It is important you read and understand these before lending an item, as you will be legally bound by these once the lending agreement is confirmed. Don't worry though - it's nothing scary! It should all be fairly straightforward and means that you get to enjoy the benefits of lending, with piece of mind.
  • How long can I lend an item for?
This really depends on the popularity of the item. All items in the 'Rent My Wardrobe' range will be reviewed every 3 months. If we feel that certain items are not proving to be the right fit for our customer base and unlikely to rent well, at Diffuse Retail we reserve the right to end the lending agreement and return the items to you. For those items that are proving popular or look likely to have better success in another season, we will contact the lender and confirm that they are happy to maintain the lending agreement and for their item to continue to be stored at Diffuse Retail, until the next range assessment. This assessment is required to ensure we best utilise the limited space in-store available to showcase all of the 'Rent My Wardrobe' items well and ensure the best rate of likely rental as a result.
  • How much can I make renting my items?
The rental price charged to customers for your item will vary depending on its rough original retail price. So the higher original value your item, the higher price we can charge for rental. At Diffuse Retail, we will provide a recommended retail price, but the lender has the opportunity to request an amendment, if felt appropriate. As a lender there are two service packages available, each of which have their own commission split between Diffuse Retail and the lender. These are: - 'Local in-store only': The lender will receive 60% of every rental booking, with Diffuse Retail taking the remainder. - 'Nationwide omni-channel': Due to the additional work required to support this package, including things such as online listings, communication management and organising product shipping; the lender will receive 40% of every rental booking, with Diffuse Retail taking the remainder. Any takings from rental bookings owed to the Lender, will be paid directly via bank transfer on the last day of every month. Please note that that HMRC laws around tax on profit made from selling/renting second hand clothing online has changed recently, so it is important you familiarise yourself with these and follow the suggested guidelines. Diffuse Retail can not accept any responsibility for tax requirements made on your rental bookings.
  • Will I still be able to wear my items when I want?
Absolutely - that is the beauty of rental. However, you may just need to be a little more organised about when you will want your items. We will ensure any dates you wish to have your item are booked out as unavailable and that your item is cleaned, ready for you to enjoy. If you decide last minute you wish to wear your item, we cannot guarantee it won't be out on a rental booking - so it will always be worth providing some notice.
  • Who is responsible for the care and cleaning of my items?
Diffuse Retail will take responsibility of ensuring a full quality inspection of your item upon return from a rental booking. We will arrange for the item to be cleaned as per the care instructions, to ensure it is ready for future rentals. The turnaround time for this can typically take a maximum of between 7-10 days. In the rare occasion that there is any damage to the item, we will alert you to this (including images as proof). Having consulted with our local seamstress, we will recommend whether we feel it can be fixed and the rough price for doing so. Any cost of repairs are to be covered by the lender, if under £25. Anything more significant, will be covered by the renter.
